Has it been seriously 2 weeks since I last posted? Well, as you can see my life has been busy. Our new routine has pretty much stuck.
This weekend was different. I had to go to Girl Scout Camp without my daughter or my troop for training. This was the first time since I had been married that I was not staying in the same place with either my husband or my kids. I could not believe that when I realized that.
So, one of my fellow troop leaders and I took off to the training Friday night. The training did not start until Saturday morning, but since it was a 2.5 hour drive, we figured we would go Friday. We got to the training site. We got to meet some other leaders and learn some new songs.
Saturday started training. The first class was a three hour class in fire building. This class covered a whole lot more then fire building. Knife safety and fire starters were also talked about as well.
The next class was outdoor cooking. My family is into cooking, so I knew how much you could do outside. The climax of the class was each group being assigned a part of the meal to cook. Well, my class gets dump cobbler. It's one of my husbands favorite things to make and I could do it with my eyes closed. I can send you the recipe if you ask me! I taught everyone how to make it. We also did foil packets, soup and french bread. Pretty much anything you can make in a kitchen, you can make outside.
The last class was the overnight experience. It was talking about how your girls should plan the camping trip. The other leaders were very afraid of this. I am all for it. I think the more control you give the girls, the more fun they have. I can't wait to for our first camping trip where they can plan the meals and such. We have an overnight in November where I will let them plan the meals. As one of the facilitators said, make sure to pack your own meals.
I had an awesome time and learned a lot by listening to the other leaders. I am hoping our first trip will be the end of March. We'll see how it goess.
That's right, even leaders learn from their fellow leaders. :) Don't worry, I absolutely think your husband and children understand your job as a troop leader, Amber. It seems that every group learned a lot from the camp, and more importantly, they had fun.
